How to Wake Up Early
Have you ever tried waking up early? Then you go ahead and snooze your alarm and go back to your warm bed? Or you just lay in your bed thinking about how you hate waking up early? Yeah, me too…. Specially the waking up and snoozing my alarm over and over and over …. and over again.
I have been looking for easier ways to wake up early. I have been looking at videos, and even doing my own research on what usually works for people to have a successful early day. Here is what I have found:
Choose a Good Wake up Method
There are so many different methods that people use to wake up in the morning. The most common one is using you phone as an alarm clock. This method is not a bad one, but how many of us sleep with our phones right next to our beds? Yeah me too. I am not saying that your is not a good wake up method, but try placing it on a different spot at night, specially somewhere you will have to get out of bed if you try to snooze your alarm. The fact that you have to get up, will make you think “Well, I am up already” and then you can go ahead and star your day!
Use a Sunrise Alarm Clock
What is a Sunrise Alarm Clock? You might ask. A Sunrise Alarm Clock is an Alarm clock that has a light in it that mimics the sunrise when the alarm goes off! If you are one of those people that like to sleep in complete darkness, shades closed, doors closed, no lights at all, then this will do wonders for you!
One of the best ways to tell our brains that it’s time to wake up is by having some sort of light! A sunrise alarm clock can help with this, but also opening the shades right as soon as you wake up. If you happen to wake up before the sun, then try turning on some lights, let’s trick our brain into thinking it’s already daytime.
Be Realistic
There are countless youtube videos, TikToks, Reels, and so many other videos of people saying how productive they are when they wake up at 4am or 5am. Let’s be honest, this is not applicable to everyone. Taking into consideration that humans need to sleep between 7 and 9 hours every night, in order to wake up that early you need to go to bed early as well. This may be an unrealistic expectation to someone who either have children, or work a 9-5 and need to do things later at night. Whatever is realistic for you, that is the best time to wake up.
Avoid Taking Naps
Naps, I am a big fan of napping in the middle of the afternoon. This also disrupts my sleeping schedule. When you nap, you tend to not be tired or not wanting to sleep at your usual hour. If possible, avoid taking naps so you can sleep at a good hour at night. If you need a quick power nap, I highly recommend taking a 10-15 min nap! Anything longer than that may disrupt your entire sleeping schedule.
Have a Planned Morning Routine
Something that helps me in the mornings is having already a planned morning. For example having the clothes that I am going to wear already to go, have everything that I need to use out and ready for me. This also helps me with my decision making in the morning, it helps me not to be all grumpy because as always “I have nothing to wear” when in reality is that I am too lazy to think of something.
Having a planned morning also helps with the habits that you want to achieve. For example, if you want to go workout early in the morning, then have your workout outfit already set so you can get changed and are good to go! if you want to drink water as soon as you wake up in the morning, then set a cup of water next to your bed!
Waking up early is easy, we just have to know little habits that will help us achieve this.
